EEPROM, is required in projects when you need to store data permenantly even if the power turn off and turn on back again(non-volatile). The AT24C164 provides 16,384 bits of serial electrically erasable and programmable read only memory (EEPROM) organized as 2048 words of 8 bits each.You may use it in projects where the MCU does not have inbuit EEPROM or you need more permanent storage. The device’s cascadable feature allows up to eight devices to share a common 2-wire bus. The device is optimized for use in many industrial and commercial applications where low power and low voltage operation are essential. The AT24C164 is available in space saving 8-pin PDIP and 8-pin SOIC packages and is accessed via a 2-wire serial interface. In addition, this device is available in 5.0V (4.5V to 5.5V), 2.7V (2.7V to 5.5V), 2.5V (2.5V to 5.5V) and 1.8V (1.8V to 5.5V) versions.
